The Romeo and Juliet Ballet tells of the love of a man and a woman, set against the rivalry of their families. The story was written by William Shakespeare (1564-1616), the story was first interpreted for ballet by Sergei Prokofiev and the score was completed in 1935. Its first presentation in ballet was on Jan. 11, 1940, at the Kirov State Theatre of Opera and Ballet, St. Petersburg.
