Truman is battery operated. The batteries (AA) are already installed and ready to play. On his underside you will see a little black on/off switch. When in the on position, you can squeeze his fooot where the red notes are and she will start to play. Access to the compartment (also on his underside) when batteries need to be changed necessitates turning one screw. You will need a tiny Phillips screwdriver to open the compartment.
