Begun as a Carnegie Mellon University thesis project, Godspell debuted off-Broadway in 1971, became a movie in 1973 and moved to Broadway in 1976. Stephen Schwartz received his second Tony nomination when Godspell was nominated for Best Score in 1977. He had previously been nominated for his 1973 Broadway musical, Pippin. Included in the final version of the musical is the song, "By My Side", composed by Peggy Gordon with lyrics by Jay Hamburger. This song is from the original Carnegie Mellon project.
Our accompaniment/karaoke CD of songs from Godspell features 32 tracks. Tracks 1-16 contain the background tracks and guide vocals; tracks 17-32 contain the accompaniment tracks alone. This album is a re-recording in the original show key and show tempo.

Each song appears on the album twice: once with music and vocals, and once with accompaniment tracks alone. This allows the performer to learn a song by singing along with the vocals and music, then to practice their technique accompanied only by the background tracks.
Our karaoke albums are recorded in the CD+G format. When played on a karaoke machine, lyrics will appear on-screen. In a conventional CD player no graphics will appear onscreen, however, a booklet of the lyrics is enclosed in the CD jewel case. CD+G albums will play in any CD player.
