Based on the Fairy Tale by Hans Christian Anderson that inspired Stravinsky's first Opera, this is a Fairy Tale Music Box from the 1988 Franklin Mint collection. The Franklin Mint is a private mint founded by Joseph Segel in 1964 in Wawa, Pennsylvania.
Made in Thailand, this black porcelain miniature music box with gold accents plays "Song of the Nightingale." It is a miniature rectangular shaped box with concave corners. It measures approx. 3" across. Excellent vintage condition with no chips or cracks and music plays a segment of the opera perfectly.
