Zimbalist Music boxes are especially interesting and collectible architectural pieces. This unusual multi-footed, powder box is engraved with a leafy vine and Flower design. It plays a two tune, 28 note Thorens mechanism. "The Anniversary Waltz" and "The Blue Danube Waltz"
No more powder puff but could be used for small candies or trinkets. Designed by Fred Zimbalist, a famed harmonica player and cousin of Ephrem Zimbalist, Sr. (the famed concert violinist) is in keeping with his other creations in the 1950s, but this one perhaps is a bit more unusual.
Silver pieces such as this one were all hand tooled in India and no two were exactly the same. The main powder container measures 3 1/2" in diameter and stands approximately 4 7/8" high. It rests on 12 pointed feet topped with hearts that reflect in the unengraved lower part of the box. A very subtle way to say "I love You"
Its two tune, 28 note Thorens mechanism that plays, when the lid is lifted, is hidden behind a lovely engraved nickel silver over brass plate that is in keeping with the rest of the piece.
